Public Advocate Gotbaum on the New Office of Fitness and Health Education
Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum said, "The DOE's new efforts to help students make healthy choices is great first step. The reality is that children in New York City simply do not have enough opportunities to exercise and too many opportunities to eat food with little to no nutritional value. But the more we help students learn how to make healthy choices, the more we will be able to combat the growing, citywide epidemics of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. I strongly support this new Office of Fitness and Health Education, and look forward to working with the DOE to give our children the knowledge they need to make healthy choices both now and for years to come."
