Advocate Gotbaum Gotbaum to Virginia Attorney General: Take on
Illegal Gun Sales, Not New Yorkers
MANHATTAN
- Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum today released the following statement
in response to Virginia Attorney General Robert McDonnell's warning
that New York stop sending private agents to investigate the illegal
sale of guns. The Washington Post article from today with more
details about letter is included below.
"Frankly,
I don't care if the Virginia Attorney General or the gun lobby
has a problem with the City's efforts to crack down on the illegal
sale of guns. Our responsibility is to protect New Yorkers. Guns
are being sold in Virginia illegally and then used to kill New
Yorkers. They put our police officers, our communities and our
families at risk. Mayor Bloomberg is doing the right thing by
working to crack down on these illegal purchases and take guns
out of the hands of terrorists and criminals.
