Statement
by Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum on a contaminated site in the
Soundview section of the Bronx
BRONX
- Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum stood with Concerned Residents
Organization of Soundview, New York Lawyers for the Public Interest,
and Local Political Representatives today in order to call for
the cleanup of contaminated Soundview site. The Public Advocate's
statement is below:
“In
New York, places where our kids go to play or go to school should
be sacred. And yet, this area - directly across from a large housing
complex and adjacent to a high school - is one of the worst toxic
sites in New York State. The hazardous toxins put our communities,
our families and our children at risk. We must ensure that the
owner of this site takes every necessary step to clean up the
area so that residents can breathe easier. The community has been
made to wait for far too long.”
