(New York, NY, January 29, 2003) Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum issued the following statement on Intro. No. 119, a City Council Bill which would require city agencies and city elected officials to post all official publications on their respective Web sites.
“Too often my office gets calls from people who ask for simple information about policies, procedures, and other agency documents – information that should be easily accessible via the Internet.
“This city is an information capital of the world and our government should be at the forefront in using the Internet to get information out to New Yorkers
“Since the beginning of my administration, I have made sure that we have a user-friendly Web site that informs the New Yorkers about the problems my office is solving and the issues we are addressing, and provides them with other pertinent information.
“I commend Council Member Brewer and the Council Committee on Technology in Government for introducing this important legislation, and congratulate my council colleagues for passing this bill.”
