PA Gotbaum Statement on Overcrowding Survey
"This survey on overcrowding in our schools is proof from the people who know best - the principals - that the Department of Education must fix the way it calculates capacity in New York City Public Schools. State Courts ruled that the manner in which the Board of Education calculated capacity was fundamentally
flawed, but the current administration has chosen not to fix the problem. The continued use of this flawed formula is costing our students access to gyms, libraries, cafeterias, auditoriums, mandated special education services, and the optimal learning environment that comes with smaller class sizes."
