Public Advocate Gotbaum Statement on Cesar Rodriguez Guilty Verdict
Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum said, "Nixzmary Brown's tragic life has affected and touched all of us. Thankfully, her death was not in vain as it has brought some much-needed reform to the Administration for Children's Services. Although, the responsibility for this horrible act ultimately lies with the man convicted today, we need to remember that there are countless children who suffer at the hands of abusive adults. ACS must stay vigilant to make sure that every child is protected. And, as I have said for the past several years, we need an independent Office of the Child Advocate, to provide permanent, real-time oversight of the child welfare system and protect our most vulnerable children."
