"I support the 1,100 Home Health Care aides who are being
denied a living wage and health benefits by People Care.
These workers provide care to the
City’s most vulnerable citizens every single day, yet People
Care seems to be more concerned with profits than employee well-being.
A salary of six dollars an hour is an insult to these skilled
workers who help feed, dress, and exercise released hospital patients.
And People Care’s failure to provide health care to healthcare
workers themselves is nothing less than disgraceful.
These workers deserve partially paid
benefits, guaranteed work hours, and a fair salary by 2007. I
call on the People Care Home Health Agency to start living up
to their name by addressing the needs of the people they employ
or get out of the home health care business altogether."
